Mary Cavendish’s corset is already too tight. All the lovely Christmas food is tempting her, and that’s bad news for her dream of attracting a “knight on a white charger" — not that volunteering at the parish hospital is how she expects to meet him. Enter a mysterious Christmas Eve patient, who is none other than the famous Shakespearean actor Sir Wesley Samuel Darcy. Mary finds him arrogant, too forward... and maddeningly handsome.

When Mary learns Sir Wesley has been invited to spend Christmas with her family at Rougemont, she vows to resist the charming London rogue. Wesley thinks finding the perfect present for Miss Cavendish will tempt her — she’s not as prim as she pretends to be. Mary turned down six proposals last Season, and she’s not about to give in to a rake. But if Mary can’t resist the sugarplums, how can she resist the dashing Sir Wesley?

I avoid novellas as a rule. Too short to be the kind of read I most enjoy and not worth the time or money. I broke the rule when I saw Moriah Densley wrote one. I so loved her Song for Sophia that I couldn't resist. Her writing continues to be outstanding and she captured my attention with her teaser for Mary and Wesley.

It's Christmas and Mary is a nurse just about to leave for the night when a carriage accident brings wounded victims for her to tend. One just happens to be tall, dark and handsome and begins a flirtation with Mary, who seems to be having none of it. Of course, in this case they find they are both going to Rougemont, the home of Sophie and Wil for Christmas - such a lovely setting for romance. I loved the peek we got of Sophie and Wil and their children - so satisfying....Christmas festivities, excited children, a wounded hero, and a heroine just waiting for the right man all add up to an enjoyable couple of hours.

Although I enjoyed reading this and it was good, it was very rushed and way too short. But - I expected that. It was worth the money, however, just to find out that more of Densley's works are shortly to be published in Kindle format. Can't wait!

Mary Christmas Knight A Rougemont Novel edition by Moriah Densley For the Muse Designs Kim Bowman Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Novellas used to be short stories with a beginning, middle and an end. Now they are apparently teasers and a way to get an extra couple of cents out the reader for a story that will actually be told later. This is extremely annoying. On top of that any book that has the supposedly experienced and jaded hero proposing marriage in less than 24 hours of meeting the heroine is just plain bad fiction unless he is actually marrying her for her money and willing to admit it.
This was my first Moriah Densley story. I was thoroughly enjoying reading about Mary and Wesley then.... Wham! That's it? I thought my kindle got glitchy and didn't finish downloading. But I read the reviews (of course after I bought the novella) and saw that some readers were in the same boat I was. Totally sad because I thought the story was just getting good.

So is this just a teaser or is Ms. Densley really going to be that cruel and leave Mary and Wesley's love affair up in the air?!?! Inquiring minds want to know!!

That's the reason why I gave MARY'S CHRISTMAS KNIGHT 3 stars. It could have been a 5 if it was complete.
This novella has it all - engaging characters, a realistic story line, and a touch of Christmas magic. Two underestimated, misunderstood souls meet by chance on Christmas Eve and sparks fly. An accident brings the hero, a revered stage actor, to the local clinic where the heroine, a young local lady, volunteers and their attraction is immediate. Both have keen wits, and the heroine is driven to uncharacteristic reactions. It turns out that the hero was headed to the heroine's family home t o spend the holiday when his carriage was robbed and wrecked. On further acquaintance their attraction simmers and the hero realizes the heroine, who believes herself an overweight spinster, is a complicated passionate woman. And she recognizes that the hero is more than the superficial libertine she expected. These two troubled characters find peace with one another and a promise of a happy future together. I strongly recommend this little gem ti anyone who likes their romances seasoned with a touch of reality.
I have enjoyed this authors work very much. Her first book I thought she crammed too much into a four year period, this book in reverse there wasn't nearly enough to call it a full story! In trying to find out just what I bought this seems to be a preview for a full story yet to come? I have a question mark as I think that is what this was.

This is the beginning of the love story of Mary Cavendish the sister of Philip Cavendish and his friend Sir Darcy. The following is not a spoiler as it is a forgone conclusion that our Historical Romances have a Happy Ever After so no surprise here. The last few lines of this book

......her head on his shoulder again. "Consider it a maybe."
He smiled and tucked his arm across her shoulders again. "Mary, my dear, I consider it a challenge."

THE END

THE END??? really?? I flipped a few pages, surely my kindle wasn't working, there had to be a few more pages. No, that is how she ended this story. Rather this is how she didn't end the story but left us hanging? I really hope so or we all have been duped.

Why is there so little outrage by readers at the end of this book? Did I miss something? I am not joking, please share with me the secret here. I never mind buying a novella, in this case a very short story but this was more a formal full pay 'sneak peak'. If it was/is not then shame on this author for wasting my time. I read her first two books in this series. I enjoyed them very much. I saved this for a lunch time read, sort of a dessert, I got an appetizer instead. If I could I would return this under "unfinished work" but it's too late. I gave it a full 3 stars, I can't fault the story's potential or the writing style. I may have been too generous but where is the end of this book??

I look forward to anyone who can clear this up for me, show me my mistake and I will re-write my review. As of this moment I can't review what feels like unfinished work. So, for the moment I give it 3 stars, make the rest of the book a full story and give it to me for free (I have after all paid for a full story to date) and I will rate it accordingly.
